"Als ich von diesem Trio-Projekt mit der ungewöhnlichen Besetzung hörte, war ich sofort gespannt und schon beim ersten Hören hin und weg!

Es ist eher selten das sich eine Sängerin dem modernen Jazz zuwendet, wenn sie vom Punkrock her kommt und in ihrer Heimat erfolgreiches Popsternchen wurde und sogar am Eurovision Song Contest teilnahm! Doch die in Berlin lebende Kroatin Vesna Pisarović hat sich für diesen Genrewechsel entschieden. Mit ihrem Album 'With Suspicious Minds' (u.a. mit Clayton Thomas und Steve Heather) öffnete sie sich der Improvisierten Musik. Der Bassist auf ihrem Album 'Hooray for Herbie (feat. Gebhard Ullmann) ist beispielsweise niemand geringerer als Joe Fonda.
Zlatko Kaučič ist ohne Zweifel eine der zentralen Persönlichkeiten des slowenischen Jazz. Wir spielen seit einiger Zeit im Duo und im Trio mit Joëlle Léandre. Pisarović kannte ich nicht. Sie ist eine absolute Kennerin der Musik von Steve Lacy und es war ihre Idee, sich mit dem Schlagzeuger und Pädagogen Kaučič und einem seiner ehemaligen Studenten, Gal Furlan, mittlerweile Impresario des slowenischen "Klub Štala" in Lokavec, zusammen zu tun und das Programm "Lacy's Poetry" zu verwirklichen: Improvisierte Musik, inspiriert von der Musik des Jazz-Saxophonisten und Komponisten Steve Lacy – die von ihm vertonten Texte stammen von Georges Braque - auf originelle Weise interpretiert. Ein musikalisch unberechenbarer Abend den man nicht versäumen sollte!"

"When I heard about this trio project with its unusual line-up, I was immediately intrigued and was blown away from the very first listen!
It's rather rare to turn into modern jazz for a singer who has a punk rock background, became a successful pop starlet in her native country and even took part in the Eurovision Song Contest! But Berlin-based Croatian Vesna Pisarović decided to switch genres. With her album 'With Suspicious Minds" (with Clayton Thomas and Steve Heather, among others), she opened up to improvised music. The bass player on her album "Hooray for Herbie (feat. Gebhard Ullmann)" for example, is none other than Joe Fonda.
Zlatko Kaučič is without doubt one of the central personalities of Slovenian jazz. We have been playing in duo and trio with Joëlle Léandre for some time now. I didn't know Pisarović. She is an absolute connoisseur of Steve Lacy's music and it was her idea to team up with the drummer and teacher Kaučič and one of his former students, Gal Furlan (now impresario of the Slovenian “Klub Štala” in Lokavec) to realise the programme “Lacy's Poetry”: Improvised music inspired by the music of jazz saxophonist and composer Steve Lacy - the texts he set to music are by Georges Braque - interpreted in an original way. A musically unpredictable evening not to be missed!"

"Das Trio mit Isabelle Duthoit, Soizic Lebrat und Yuko Oshima ist eine bemerkenswerte Formation aus dem Feld der Improvisationsmusik: Die Musikerinnen interagieren auf eine Weise, die sowohl harmonisch als auch herausfordernd ist. Ihre Musik ist eine Mischung aus Improvisation und texturalen Erkundungen, die das Publikum in seinen Bann zu ziehen vermag.
Die Französin Isabelle Duthoit performed mit einer eindrücklich charakteristischen und vielschichtigen Stimme die sie mit der Klarinette kontrastiert, unterstreicht und begleitet. Soizic Lebrat ist eine französische Cellistin und Komponistin. Sie arbeitet als Solistin und in diversen Formationen der internationalen Improvisationsmusik und schöpft dabei aus ihrem Background der klassischen Musik. Die aus Japan stammende und in Frankreich lebende Schlagzeugerin Yuko Oshima wiederum ist in der freien Jazz und Improvisations-Szenen aktiv. Früher war sie teil der japanischen Avantgarde Musiczsene. Sie integriert auch Klangaspekte aus dem asiatischen Raum und erschafft dadurch eine individuellen Sprache."

"This is a remarkable trio in the field of improvisation music with Isabelle Duthoit, Soizic Lebrat and Yuko Oshima: The musicians interact in a way which is harmonic as well as challenging. With a mixture of improvisation and textural exploration their music is mesmerizing.
Frenchwomen Isabelle Duthoit performs with an impressive characteristic and complex voice and accompanied by her contrasting or underlining clarinet play. Soizic Lebrat is a french cello player and composer. She performs internationally as solo musician and in many improvisation formations by using her classical music background. Japanese drummer Yuko Oshima who lives in France is active in the international free jazz and improvisation music. In former years she was part of the Japanese avant-garde music community. Her individual musical style integrates also sound aspects of asian music culture."

"Sofort nach meiner ersten musikalischen Begegnung mit Szilárd Mezei (im Rahmen des Austauschprojektes mit Serbien Alpenglow IX in Novi Sad und Graz) gab es das gegenseitige Interesse, die Zusammenarbeit fortzusetzen. Szilárd ist Angehöriger der ungarischen Minderheit der serbischen Region Vojvodina. Wir beide teilen eine Verbundenheit zu Béla Bartók, sind Nomaden zwischen improvisierter und notierter Musik und interessiert an musikalischer Authentizität. Mit Leidenschaft und Abstraktion loten wir die Grenzen unserer Instrumente aus.
Gerald Cleaver, musikalisch geformt von der Jazz-Szene in Detroit, ist sicher einer der wichtigsten und produktivsten Schlagzeuger im Bereich des zeitgenössischen kreativen und freien Jazz. Egal in welchem musikalischen Kontext, er bringt immer etwas Bedeutsames und Kraftvolles ein. Man hört in seinem Spiel sowohl ‘Flow‘ als auch  ‘Konstruktion‘ - das ist für mich neben dem aufmerksamen Zuhören die beste Voraussetzung für eine Zusammenarbeit. 

Mezei, Harnik und Cleaver werden ausgehend von ihren unterschiedlichen Backgrounds ihre kreativen Energien zum ersten Mal auf der Bühne vereinen und gemeinsam die Kluft zwischen Struktur und Freiheit spielend überbrücken."

"Immediately after my first musical encounter with Szilárd Mezei, (as part of the exchange project with Serbia Alpenglow IX in Novi Sad and Graz) there was a mutual interest in continuing the collaboration. Szilárd is a member of the Hungarian minority in the Serbian region of Vojvodina. We both share a connection to Béla Bartók, are nomads between improvised and notated music and are interested in musical authenticity. We explore the limits of our instruments with passion and abstraction.

Gerald Cleaver, musically moulded by the jazz scene in Detroit, is certainly one of the most important and productive drummer in the field of contemporary creative and free jazz. Regardless of the musical context, he always brings something meaningful and powerful on the table. You can hear both ‘flow’ and ‘construction’ in his play - for me this is the best precondition for a collaboration in addition to attentive listening.
Based on their different backgrounds, Mezei, Harnik and Cleaver will unite their creative energies on stage for the first time and playfully bridge the gap between structure and freedom together."
